AEO and GEO for the age of AI search

Answer engine and generative engine optimization, so assistants understand your brand, quote you accurately and send you buyers.

Why this is different from SEO

Traditional SEO gets you a ranked link. Answer engines and chatbots often give the answer directly, and cite a handful of sources. If your page is not the clearest, most trustworthy source on a question, it is not in the answer. AEO and GEO are about being that source.

AEO: answer engine optimization

  • Answer-first content. Each key question gets a short, direct answer near the top, followed by detail.
  • Question-led headings that mirror how people ask, using real queries and People Also Ask data.
  • Structured data that matches the visible page: Article, FAQPage, Organization, Person, BreadcrumbList and Product where it applies.
  • Snippet and AI Overview tracking for your priority queries.

GEO: generative engine optimization

  • Entity clarity. One consistent description of who you are, what you sell and who it is for, across your site and profiles.
  • Authorship and sources. Named experts, dated updates, original data and citations that give models something trustworthy to quote.
  • Crawler access. Clear robots rules for OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity, Google and Apple crawlers, chosen deliberately.
  • Off-site presence. Models learn from reviews, forums, video and press, so I map where your category is discussed and where you are missing.
  • llms.txt and clean HTML. A plain-text summary and server-rendered content that is easy to read without running JavaScript.

What you receive

An AI-visibility baseline (what the major assistants say about you today), a prioritised fix list, implemented schema and content changes, and a monthly re-test so you can see movement. You can run a quick self-check with ExtCafe's free SEO AI Assistant and my checklist.

No guarantees, by design. Nobody controls what an AI model says. I reduce the chance of being missed or misdescribed, and I show you the evidence either way.

Frequently asked questions

Does FAQ schema still get rich results in Google?

Mostly not. Since 2023 Google shows FAQ rich results only for well-known government and health sites. I still recommend visible Q&A content with matching markup because it helps machines parse your page, but I do not promise a rich result.

Does llms.txt make ChatGPT cite my site?

There is no confirmed evidence that major AI providers rely on it today. It is a low-cost proposal that makes your site easier to summarise, so I add it as a small extra, never as the strategy.

How do you measure AI visibility?

I keep a list of the questions your customers ask, run them across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity on a schedule, and record whether you are mentioned, cited and described correctly.

Should I block AI crawlers?

It depends on your goals. If you want to be cited in AI answers, you generally need to allow the search and retrieval crawlers. I help you choose rules per crawler instead of all or nothing.
